Freshman safety Tae Johnson has been named to the 2025 FWAA Freshman All-America Team. Johnson became the 12th Notre Dame player to be selected to the Freshman All-America Team since its inception in 2001.

Johnson played in 10 games in the 2025 season, during which he grabbed four interceptions (including a pick-six), broke up three passes and registered 48 tackles with 0.5 TFL. He also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native was named the Walter Camp National FBS Defensive Player of the Week and the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week on November 18 on the strength of a 49-yard pick-six, five tackles and his first career half tackle for loss in the win over Pittsburgh.

Johnson returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in the home opener against Texas A&M. In a three week stretch in October, he recorded his first career interception against Boise State, then followed it up with a team-high seven tackles in the 36-7 win over NC State. Johnson set a career-high of eight tackles against USC and was named to the 2025 The Athletic Midseason All-Freshman Team in mid-October.
