Notre Dame Football has officially announced a home-and-home series with the Auburn Tigers, marking the first-ever meetings between the two storied programs.
The Irish will host Auburn at Notre Dame Stadium on September 25, 2027, before traveling to Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama, for the return game on October 28, 2028.
With the addition of Auburn, here’s how Notre Dame’s schedules currently shape up for those two seasons:
2027 Schedule
Home: Purdue, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Navy
Away: Michigan State, Wake Forest, Clemson
2028 Schedule
Home: Texas, Arkansas, Clemson, Boston College, Miami
Away: Purdue, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Navy, Pittsburgh
The 2028 schedule stands out because it may be the most challenging in years. Notre Dame is currently in negotiations and is expected to enter into a contract extension with USC to keep the long-standing rivalry intact—an addition that would make the slate even more demanding.
The 2027 contest in South Bend will mark the first time Notre Dame and the Tigers have faced each other on the gridiron. Auburn’s nickname is the Tigers, while “War Eagle” serves as the school’s traditional battle cry, a phrase often associated with the program and its fans.
The announcement continues a recent trend of the Irish broadening their national schedule, adding both variety and strength. In the spring the Irish announced a 12 year home and home series with Clemson, to commence in 2027. Notre Dame has also in 2025 played first-time opponents Boise State and Arkansas.
