Rumored for months, today it became official: ND’s 12 game in 2024 will be played against Army in Yankee Stadium on November 23, 2024. The match-up will mark the return of the Shamrock Series to the schedule and will also mark a significant anniversary. This season marks 100 years since the famed Four Horsemen backfield of Jim Crowley, Elmer Layden, Don Miller and Harry Stuhldreher were immortalized by Grantland Rice in The New York Herald Tribune after a 13-7 upset victory against Army. That game which was “outlined against a blue-gray October sky”, also took place in New Your City.
Notre Dame is 11-0 in Shamrock Series games. The on again, off again series played at neutral sites with uniquely themed alternative uniforms was first contested in 2009. It has been played in Yankee Stadium two other times in 2010 and 2018. It was last contested on October 8, 2022 in Las Vegas during Marcus Freeman’s first season as head coach. The Irish emerged victorious that day against the #16 BYU Cougars, 28-20. That day Drew Pyne threw three TD passes and Michael Meyer caught two of them and totaled 118 yards receiving on 11 catches.
