Notre Dame Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Out for Season with Knee Injury
Notre Dame announced Sunday morning that sophomore linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa has suffered a season-ending left knee injury during the Irish’s 70‑7 rout of Syracuse on Saturday.
“KVA”, who had become an impactful part of Notre Dame’s defense, had recorded 48 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and 1 interception this season. Known for his physicality , he consistently created havoc for opposing offenses and opened opportunities for his teammates.
The injury was first noticed during Saturday’s game when Viliamu-Asa was seen on the sideline out of his uniform, sending a wave of concern through the Notre Dame faithful. By Sunday morning, the team confirmed the setback would end his season.
Viliamu-Asa had been second on the depth chart behind Drayk Bowen at Mike linebacker, but shared near equal minutes at the position. With his absence, freshman Madden Faraimo has moved up the depth chart to serve as Bowen’s primary backup. Farrimo, a five-star recruit from Oceanside, California who joined Notre Dame last December as an “ultra early entry freshman”, has seen increasing action in recent weeks. Against Syracuse, Farrimo tallied 5 tackles, including 2 for loss, indicating he’s ready to step into a bigger role.
While the loss of Viliamu-Asa is a significant blow, Notre Dame looks well-equipped to handle it. Bowen remains a steady presence in the middle, and Faraimo is on the rise. Expect the Irish to adjust to the loss of KVA with confidence that their defensive standard won’t slip.
