With November tightening its grip on the playoff race, Notre Dame heads to Pittsburgh for one of the most anticipated matchups of the week — a ranked road showdown cranked up by the presence of College GameDay. The Irish arrive riding a seven-game winning streak, playing their best football of the season at precisely the right time. Pitt, rejuvenated by a hotshot freshman quarterback and confident at 7–2, faces a program-defining moment, despite what Pat Narduzzi says. Notre Dame sees it as a business trip: survive, advance, and stack another ranked win. Here’s how the Fighting Irish Preview staff sees it playing out:

Show me a one-dimensional opponent and I’ll show you another convincing win. Pitt’s passing game is dangerous; their running game is not. Pitt’s run defense is good, their pass defense is not. ND’s offense is beautifully balanced in both phases, and the ND defense has been a thing of beauty ever since they put things together starting in the second half against Purdue. Be prepared for some post bye week tricks out of Pitt and protect the football — Jadarian Price you are still on probation — and the Irish should control this one from start to finish. I can hear Pat Narduzzi whining already.
Prediction: Notre Dame 35, Pittsburgh 20

After a slow start earlier this season, the Irish have been able to get into a groove and everything seemed to work well last week against Navy. If the Irish can build on their performance last week then this won’t be a game for long. Pittsburgh enters this game at No. 22 in the country and 7-2, giving Notre Dame the opportunity to earn a quality win this week. I think we see a big game out of Jeremiyah Love that will boost him in the Heisman consideration, a lot. The Irish offense will overpower the Pittsburgh defense. Chris Ash will continue to improve this defense and hold the Panthers to 14 points including zero second half points. The Irish will not just take over Acrisure Stadium but they will also get a nice win to send a large contingent of Notre Dame fans home happy.
Prediction: Notre Dame 42, Pittsburgh 14

Notre Dame has yet to play a complete game. Last week we witnessed steps towards cleaning up the kicking game and penalties. But we still saw loss of possession on downs and 3-and-outs, which have often reared their heads this season. I expect Notre Dame to put together its first complete game of the year. Barring flawed officiating. Ash is gonna have the Pitt freshman QB second guessing, and the DLine is gonna tee off. Offense will continue its trajectory as one of the scariest in the country.
Prediction: Notre Dame 41, Pittsburgh 13

A lot of talk these days about two-loss teams and which should be ranked higher. Certain arguments are ridiculous. But if some people think it, others concur. So when two-loss Notre Dame takes on two-loss Pitt on Saturday, the Fighting Irish understand the assignment: Win Big. Minimize Doubt.
Can Chris Ash’s resurgent defense stop the Pitt pass attack? No reason to think it can’t. The ND offense will do ND offense things. Biggest question mark is the kicking game. It’s been shaky as of late. Now add the unsteady Acrisure Stadium turf situation to the mix where Steelers kicker Chris Boswell even fell flat when the turf gave way on a kick attempt. Will that affect Marcus Freeman’s confidence in his kicking game? I think they go for two once or twice.
Prediction: Notre Dame 46, Pittsburgh 21

If you’ve been following Pittsburgh at all this year, you know this is a completely different team then its first four games. New quarterback, a renewed rushing attack, and a top-25 efficient defense. The Panthers are solid, but Narduzzi’s team hasn’t faced a team like the Irish yet this year. Similar to Pittsburgh, the Irish are a completely different squad from its last loss against the Aggies back in September. CJ Carr is one of the top quarterbacks in the country, mixed in with the best backfield in the nation without any debate. The Irish offense continues to roll, but the Irish defense led by corners Leonard Moore and Christian Gray will have a substantial impact on the game by key pass breakups and interceptions down the stretch to frustrate Pitt’s freshman quarterback.

I have a feeling this one will be one-sided, but I’m not going to predict that. Look for a couple quick strike touchdowns by the Irish offense early on to keep this one no closer than a two possession game the entire way.
Prediction: Notre Dame 34, Pittsburgh 24

Pittsburgh apparently has a good run defense, and if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that before a Notre Dame game, I’d be flying first class to this one. Notre Dame doesn’t care about your run defense. They’re going to run the ball, and they’re going to run it well. And yes, they’re absolutely going to take advantage of the 96th-ranked pass defense too.
Defensively, expect Boubacar Traore to tee off against a porous Pitt offensive line.
I get it — the media has to create a spectacle to juice their ratings. But don’t get it twisted. Notre Dame is a 13-point favorite for a reason.
Prediction: Notre Dame 35, Pittsburgh 13

The Final Byte uses in-depth analysis of matchups, efficiency trends, injury impacts, coaching tendencies, and closing-week patterns across college football to deliver a confident, data-backed prediction each week — with a little attitude baked in.
A ranked road test, a playoff résumé begging for clarity, and a Pitt team convinced it can trade punches — but Notre Dame shows up with the composure and horsepower of a contender that’s done sharpening and ready to start slicing. Pitt lands a few jabs early, but the Irish depth, discipline, and sheer firepower take over as the stadium chills and the stakes rise.
Final Byte Prediction: Notre Dame 38, Pittsburgh 17
